HEVC (High Efficiency Video Coding) is a video compression standard that enables high-quality video playback with smaller file sizes. Lack of HEVC coding support, in addition to affect video playback, and even affect the opening of the picture. HEVC Video Extensions aims to support the HEVC video format (also known as H. 265) for Windows 10 media player (such as film and TV applications) and other third-party applications that support the HEVC codec technology. Although Windows 11 supports HEVC playback, some devices may not have native support. In this case, the user downloads the HEVC video extension for installation.
After installing this extension, Windows 10 media player and some third-party applications will be able to play HEVC-encoded video files without the need to install additional codecs.
