Kodi is a free and open source (GPL) software media player and entertainment hub that supports Windows, Android, iOS, MacOS, TVOS, Linux, and Raspberry Pi systems. Kodi can create a personalized audio-visual library, can display covers and profiles, there is a wealth of plug-ins to support the playback of local and online playback network multimedia resources. Originally developed for Xbox, it’s called XBMC (Xbox Media Center for short) , which means Xbox Media Center for the Xbox platform. Without XBMC installed, Xbox players lose at least half the fun of playing Xbox. Because of the involvement of developers around the world, the software has far more functionality than ever before. For this reason, XBMC 14 was renamed Kodi.

Kodi’s graphical user interface allow users to easily browse and watch videos, photos, radio and music from their hard drives, cds, local area networks and the Internet with the touch of a remote control. The Kodi project is managed by the non-profit XBMC Foundation and developed by volunteers worldwide. Since its inception in 2003, more than 500 software developers have contributed to Kodi, with 60 core developers. In addition, more than 200 translators are helping it expand its reach to support up to 72 languages.

Kodi can provide a variety of extensions through plug-ins, Kodi development team, as well as third-party development of plug-ins. Kodi’s online content add-ons are growing through community support, and the official add-on library includes YouTube, Hulu, Grooveshark, Pandora Radio, and skins, third-party developers also maintain many unofficial plug-in libraries.

Kodi requires a 3D GPU graphics hardware controller to support rendering. Such 3D GPU chips are now standard on computers, as are many set-top boxes. Kodi works well on OpenGL 1.3(with GLSL support) , OpenGL ES 2.0, or Direct3D (DirectX)9.0-compatible IA-32/x86, x86-64, or ARM-based CPU systems.

Android

Kodi for Android first released on June 13,2012, the source code is a full port of Google’s Android operating system. This migration uses no Java at all, but the Kodi C + + and C source code and all dependencies are fully ported by the Android NDK (Native Development Kit for Android) , which handles multiple processor architectures such as ARM, MIPS, and x86. Kodi. APK is a native Android application.

Linux

Kodi for Linux is primarily designed for Ubuntu. There are also third-party installation packages for other Linux distributions. In addition, Kodi can be compiled from source on any Linux distribution that has a dependent library installed.

iOS

Kodi for iOS, which was first released on January 20,2011, is a full port of Apple’s iOS operating system. H. 264 video hardware decoding for 720p and 1080p, and compatibility with a variety of Apple mobile devices using Apple A4 or higher processors. Need to jailbreak the iOS operating system.

Mac

Kodi for Mac runs on Intel Processor Mac OS X and supports H. 264 hardware decoding.
