Free Downloadmpv is a fork of mplayer2 and MPlayer with support for a wide variety of video file formats, audio and video codecs, and subtitle types.
It offers hardware acceleration via FFmpeg, with support for VDPAU and VAAPI plus DXVA2 on Windows, and VDA and VideoToolbox video.
mpv can play internet radio streams, video streams, apply various audio and video filters ‘live’, adjust quality, framerate, frame timing, customizable pixel shaders, advanced upscaling filters, color management, interpolation. Through youtube-dl, mpv natively supports playback of high-definition video (HD) content on YouTube and over 300 other supported video streaming sites.
As mpv is primarily a CLI (command line) application it lacks a traditional interface (though there are various front-ends available for it) like SMPlayer, Bomi, MPC-QT, or Baka MPlayer.
Getting started with mpv player for Windows:
1. Always use mpv to play movies – Use mpv-install.bat to set up file type associations.
2. Place yt-dlp in the same directory as mpv to play online videos, than drag/drop the URL from your browser to the mpv window. You can also copy and paste the URL directly into the mpv command-line.
